Mequissa is a dynamic advocate and excellent legal researcher adept in the areas of Public Law, International Law, Immigration Law and Commercial Law, among others.
In her role as the Lead Commercial Legal Strategist for CARICOM Attorneys-at-law, she works closely with the Principal Attorney to research and draft submissions to courts while developing strategies for cases.
As part of the Public Law team, she co-produces and co-hosts the firm’s Public Law podcast. She contributes to the management of matters involving Human Rights, Immigration Law, Public International Law, Constitutional Law, and Administrative Law, along with the other members of the Public Law team.
Mequissa is committed to fearlessly fighting against injustice and helping society’s most vulnerable. She intends to have a dual practice in the UK and the Caribbean in the future. Within the Caribbean, she aspires to take on strategic litigation cases in Public Law to help advance the rights of minoritised persons within the region.
In addition to her professional qualifications, Mequissa has an impressive academic history and has secured 15 scholarships and awards throughout her academic career. She completed her LLB at the University of the West Indies with First Class Honours. She was then awarded two prestigious Exhibition scholarships by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple to train to be a barrister in the UK. While there, she achieved an Outstanding in law school – the top 2%.
When not studying or working in law, Mequissa mentors law students in the UK. She is also setting up 3 charities in the Caribbean aimed at helping persons from underprivileged backgrounds whilst running a student group in the UK for immigrant aspiring barristers, and is teaching herself Norwegian.
